PSG Was Prepared for Matvey Safonov Tricky Situation

The transfer of Krasnodar’s goalkeeper, Matvey Safonov, to Paris Saint-Germain may never materialize due to the player’s personal issues. However, the club was aware of the potential complications.

According to the Russian outlet Championat, Safonov, who had already completed his medical and was set to sign a five-year contract with PSG for €18 million, now finds himself unable to leave Russia.

The holdup stems from a judicial decision restricting his movements due to an unresolved alimony dispute with his ex-wife. The amount in question is 60 million rubles, equivalent to over €600,000.

PSG Was Informed

Matvey Safonov, initially set to join PSG, cannot leave Russia until this sum is paid. When asked about the situation, the player stated, « I do not comment on my possible or impossible transfer to PSG. You will know if it happens just like I will. »

However, according to Le Parisien, this setback does not jeopardize the deal with PSG. The newspaper assures that Safonov’s transfer to PSG is not canceled and that the player has appealed the decision while planning to settle the debt. PSG, which was aware of this legal issue, remains optimistic about the outcome and intends to finalize the transfer for €18 million plus bonuses, despite Safonov’s personal problems.
