PSG is reportedly very close to finalizing the signing of Matvei Safonov, the Russian national team goalkeeper.
A Russian at PSG? According to Championat, PSG and the Russian club Krasnodar (former club of Rémy Cabella) are close to completing the transfer of Matvei Safonov.
The deal is expected to be around €20 million plus bonuses for the Russian club. The 25-year-old Russian international (13 caps) would come to PSG to serve as the backup to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
PSG is indeed looking for a goalkeeper for the next season. With the departure of Keylor Navas and the possible loan of Arnau Tenas, Paris wants to strengthen its goalkeeping lineup, and Safonov fits the bill: he is the number one goalkeeper in Russian football.
The player has been the national team’s goalkeeper since Euro 2020 and could thus provide serious competition for Donnarumma. However, PSG is also considering Lucas Chevalier, the goalkeeper from Lille.
