Five years after missing out on Memphis Depay, OGC Nice nearly made a significant move in 2022 with the potential arrival of Edinson Cavani.

OGC Nice could have brought Edinson Cavani back to France. The former Paris Saint-Germain striker, who was a free agent after leaving Manchester United, seemed close to signing with the club. Jean-Pierre Rivère, president of OGC Nice, revealed that discussions with the Uruguayan were well advanced, but a financial blockage ultimately prevented the signing.

« Cavani is an extremely respectable guy. At one point, there was a slight financial issue, and we had to say no. I think if we had said yes, he would have come to us. I had shareholders; I reported the situation to them, and they told me yes or no, » the Nice president stated on the channel L’Équipe.

Cavani eventually continued his career at Valencia in Spain, where he had a mixed season.
