Moussa Diaby has made his decision, and it’s not the allure of Saudi Arabia’s money that won him over. Instead, he has chosen the sporting project at Aston Villa, and PSG is more than content with his choice.
The RB Leipzig player turned down an offer from Al-Nassr to join Aston Villa, where he will reunite with his former PSG coach, Unai Emery.
Aston Villa splashed an impressive sum to secure Diaby’s services, with a transfer fee of 50 million euros, plus an additional 10 million euros in bonuses. This deal marks Aston Villa’s biggest expenditure in their history, surpassing the 38.4 million euros they spent on acquiring Emiliano Buendia from Norwich in 2021.
On the PSG side, there’s reason to celebrate. Paris will receive 20% of the profit made from Diaby’s transfer. Having been sold to Bayer Leverkusen for 15 million euros in 2019, PSG is set to receive an additional 7 to 9 million euros, depending on the player’s performance. In total, the capital club could pocket between 22 and 24 million euros for the transfer of their former academy product.
