Matvey Safonov Says Yes to PSG
PSG Nearing a Surprise Signing: The club from the capital is reportedly very close to securing the signature of Matvey Safonov, the Russian national team goalkeeper.
According to the Russian media outlet Championat, PSG and the Russian club Krasnodar (formerly home to Rémy Cabella) are on the verge of finalizing Safonov’s transfer. The deal is expected to be worth 20 million euros plus bonuses. The player has agreed to the transfer.
The 25-year-old Russian international, who has 13 caps, is set to play the role of backup to Gianluigi Donnarumma. PSG is in search of a goalkeeper for the upcoming season, especially with the departure of Keylor Navas and the possible loan of Arnau Tenas. Safonov, regarded as the top goalkeeper in Russian football, fits the club’s requirements perfectly.
Since Euro 2020, Safonov has been the first-choice keeper for the Russian national team and could thus put pressure on Donnarumma. However, PSG is also keeping an eye on Lucas Chevalier, the Lille goalkeeper.
