The first signing of the transfer window is here. Matvey Safonov, 25, has signed with PSG on Friday, June 14.
« Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce the signing of Matvey Safonov. The 25-year-old goalkeeper has committed to the club until 2029, » announced the club.
Safonov expressed his excitement about the move: « I am very happy to join Paris Saint-Germain, one of the greatest clubs with a rich history and track record. I can’t wait to meet my new teammates, defend my new colors, and make the fans proud. Allez Paris! »
Born in Stavropol, Russia, on February 25, 1999, Matvey Safonov progressed through the youth ranks at FK Krasnodar, in southern Russia. The goalkeeper advanced through the club’s various levels, including Krasnodar 2, before making his Premier-Liga debut (Russian first division) against Amkar Perm in August 2017. During the 2018-2019 season, the 1.92m tall goalkeeper made 21 appearances for the first team, including five in the Europa League.
This long-term contract positions Safonov as a direct competitor to Gianluigi Donnarumma, adding depth and competition to PSG’s goalkeeping roster.
