Kylian Mbappé left a lasting impression with his brace in Real Sociedad-PSG. Not just his brace… but also his speed, reminiscent of a certain Usain Bolt.

Kylian Mbappé could have had a decent career in the 100 meters. According to the BBC, the PSG forward was clocked at an estimated speed of 10.9 seconds over 100 meters, equivalent to approximately 33 km/h.

Impressive for a footballer. However, still quite far from the world record holder of the 100 meters, Usain Bolt, who set it at 9.58 seconds in Berlin in 2009.

However, these figures are hardly comparable. Kylian Mbappé was timed running on grass, while Usain Bolt starts from blocks on a track. But it still demonstrates that Mbappé hasn’t lost any of his speed.

Mbappé had already been timed at this speed during the 2022 World Cup. In 2019, Kylian Mbappé sprinted at 38 km/h at top speed. Slightly better than Usain Bolt’s average during his 100-meter record. Yet, over a second difference in the 100 meters… that’s a considerable gap in athletics.
