Is PSG for sale? The question remains after 15 years of « Qatarization, » with rumors now circulating following reports from L’Équipe. However, Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) has firmly denied these speculations.
Since taking over PSG in 2011, QSI has invested heavily in the club, but recent reports suggest that the future of the club could be uncertain. L’Équipe speculated that PSG might be put up for sale due to disappointing sports results and delays in the construction of a new stadium. The report also suggested that the Qataris, no longer as focused on the club after the 2022 World Cup, were growing weary of the star players’ demands and the ongoing Kylian Mbappé saga. While there have been internal calls for tighter financial control, QSI has continued to cover the club’s losses.
The recent entry of Arctos Partners into PSG’s capital raised further questions about Qatar’s future involvement, leading some to believe the Emir might be willing to sell if the right offer came along. However, a spokesperson for QSI, speaking to English journalist Ben Jacobs, strongly rejected the rumors, calling them « fake news. »
« This is completely false. The same newspaper repeats these lies week after week, » the spokesperson said. « The shareholders have just invested €350 million in Poissy, announced major new expansions to the Campus, and are looking to invest hundreds of millions in a new stadium while also increasing our investments in football, sports, and entertainment. But apparently, we’re looking to sell. »
Thus, for now, QSI remains committed to PSG, continuing to invest in the club’s future.
