PSG President Nasser al-Khelaïfi Mocks Real Madrid President Florentino Perez

Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the president of PSG, strongly reacted against the Super League, taking a playful jab at the president of Real Madrid in the process.

The Super League has resurfaced in recent days, with many clubs already refusing to participate. The two founding members, Real Madrid and Barcelona, are leading the charge on the issue, with Florentino Perez, the president of Real, notably at the forefront.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of PSG and the European Club Association (ECA), was quite outspoken, noting an amusing image in passing: Florentino Perez announcing the Super League in front of the UEFA Champions League trophies won by the club. The two competitions would seemingly enter into direct competition, perhaps to the death.

« They talk to us about freedom, but it remains, among other things, a closed league. It’s strange; some speak about the Super League with UEFA trophies behind them, » quipped Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

As the president of PSG, NAK was clear in a club statement. « Paris Saint-Germain completely and utterly rejects any so-called Super League project, as it has since day one and always will. As a proud European institution, PSG supports the principles of the European sporting model, the values of open competition and inclusion, and works with all recognized stakeholders in European football – especially with supporters and players, who are at the heart of football. »
