The National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG) has released the financial report for the clubs of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 for the 2022-2023 season, revealing concerning figures for PSG and Lyon.

The financial health of French clubs raises concerns as the DNCG report for the previous season is unveiled. The cumulative loss incurred by the 18 Ligue 1 teams in the last season amounted to €273 million, a decrease from €582 million in the preceding season.

PSG finds itself with a deficit of €110 million, while Lyon reports a deficit of €99 million. These two clubs account for 77% of the cumulative loss suffered by all Ligue 1 clubs. Additionally, Marseille faced a deficit of €12.7 million in the 2022-2023 season.

However, some clubs have managed to stay in the black. Lille, for instance, boasts a surplus of €30 million (compared to €22 million the previous season). Other clubs in the green include Clermont (€14.9 million), Lorient (€8.1 million), Lens (€3.2 million), Metz (€989,000), Nantes (€850,000), Toulouse (€249,000), and Reims (€144,000).

The disparity in financial performance among clubs underscores the challenges faced by the football industry, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. With significant deficits reported by PSG and Lyon, attention will undoubtedly turn towards their strategies for financial recovery in the coming seasons.
