Kylian Mbappé narrowly avoided the worst after a heavy collision with Austrian defender Kevin Danso: he will not require surgery after all.

The French camp feared a broken nose, which could have necessitated an operation. Although the fracture is confirmed, the examinations have been reassuring for Kylian Mbappé.

According to RMC, initial hospital examinations are promising. The French captain will not need surgery and could potentially play as soon as Friday (9 PM) against the Netherlands.

Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation, told France Info, « It will be fine for Kylian, no surgery. »

Later, the FFF issued a more official statement: « Kylian Mbappé has sustained a broken nose, confirmed the FFF late Monday night. (…) Kylian Mbappé has returned to the French team’s base camp. He will undergo treatment in the coming days without immediate surgical intervention. A mask will be crafted to allow the French team’s number 10 to consider resuming competition after a period dedicated to treatment. »
