It’s now official that 20-year-old defender Lucas Beraldo has left Sao Paulo to join Paris Saint-Germain. In his first interview with the club’s official website, he discusses the roles played by Marquinhos, Luis Enrique, and PSG’s reputation in Brazil.

On PSG:
« In Brazil, Paris Saint-Germain is a very famous club. And I don’t think it’s only in Brazil, as in France, it is the most successful team, as demonstrated in recent years. I think this weighed heavily in my decision to join the biggest French club, not just to be an additional player but to bring something extra to the team, so that we can continue to win titles. »

On Happiness:
« I am very happy. I don’t think I have realized yet that I am in this very, very great club that is Paris Saint-Germain. But I am very motivated to, as I have already said, win trophies with this club’s shirt. »

On the Strong Connection Between Brazil and PSG:
« Yes, there are many Brazilian players who have played in this shirt and have been very important, like Marquinhos, who is now the captain, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, and all the others. The best Brazilian central defenders have passed through here, and I think that played a role in my decision to come. »

On Luis Enrique’s Philosophy:
« Yes, I really identified with his style of play, the fact that he proposes the game and always keeps possession. That’s how I like to play, that’s how I have fun and enjoy myself on the field. I think that also played an important role in my decision, as well as the fact that there are young players, and the coach relies on them. »

On Europe, a New Experience:
« The fact of having great players training with me every day will allow me to evolve a lot, not only as a player but also as a person, living in another city, in another country. And I think that’s the most important thing: wanting to learn all the time, not just on the field but also outside. On my side, I think I can bring my technical quality to the team. »
