Javier Pastore defends PSG over Messi accusations

Javier Pastore

Lionel Messi criticizes PSG for not celebrating his World Cup title enough. But Javier Pastore doesn’t quite agree.

« I was the only player who didn’t receive recognition among the 25, but well…, » said Lionel Messi, criticizing PSG’s lack of celebration for his World Cup win. However, Javier Pastore doesn’t entirely agree.

« As everyone saw – we even posted a video – we celebrated Messi in training (when he won the World Cup), and we also celebrated him in private. But with respect – we are a French club. It was, of course, sensitive to have a celebration at the stadium, » Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, PSG’s president, responded diplomatically to the controversy.

Javier Pastore, an Argentine close to Messi and a former PSG player, tends to concur. « I didn’t talk to him (Messi, ed.), but it’s normal. It was difficult to celebrate a World Cup champion in a country that lost the final, » El Flaco judged this Sunday for RMC. « It meant a lot to the club not to do something significant to avoid accentuating a bad moment for France and for Paris players who played for France. After all, every player can think what they want. »

« Honestly, I don’t know everything that happened at PSG these past two years because I wasn’t there. I wasn’t Messi’s teammate. I don’t know. It’s something between the club and the player, » Javier Pastore concluded. »
