Internal Concerns About the « New PSG »

PSG

PSG

The « new PSG » project, which aims to shift away from star-studded squads, is causing some internal concerns at the club. According to L’Équipe, the recent departures of Messi and Neymar last summer, and now Mbappé this summer, have left PSG without a global star, marking a significant shift from their previous glamorous approach. The club’s current priority is recruiting young players with high potential.

« This is indeed the path chosen by the French champions’ management, aligning with the shareholder’s desire to move away from the recurring tantrums of overpaid stars and a greater focus on their (failed) attempt to acquire Manchester United rather than recent Parisian affairs, » L’Équipe explains.

With a partial takeover in place over the past few months, the Parisian management had presented Arctos Partners with a plan featuring fewer star players. However, L’Équipe notes that this strategy is causing some concern within the club.

Not a Star, but an Exceptional Player

Despite the concerns, the management remains optimistic: most indicators are positive, even though the PSG has seen a decline in social media followers recently. « In the short term, the club believes that most indicators are favorable. The re-subscription rate is at 98%, matches at the Parc des Princes have been sold out since 2017, and demand continues to far exceed supply. » Regarding sponsorship, several contracts are with in-house partners, and others are long-term agreements (Nike until 2032, Accor until 2026).

The PSG is still looking for a standout player. Not necessarily a global star, but someone exceptional. Among the candidates are Victor Osimhen, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Jadon Sancho, and Nico Williams. « In the meantime, the closest reinforcement for the French champions remains the Rennes player Désiré Doué, » concludes L’Équipe.
