In his first public comments since confirming his move to Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé addressed his departure from Paris Saint-Germain during a press conference with the French national team.

Mbappé described his departure as « a great relief, » acknowledging that he had played less towards the end of his time at PSG due to the uncertainty surrounding his future. He emphasized that this was a reality he had to adapt to as a top-level player and that it would not be an excuse for his performances at Euro 2024.

« I think a happy man has a better chance of playing well than an unhappy man, » Mbappé stated. He stressed that while there were no excuses for his past or future performances, his current happiness would not guarantee success. He acknowledged the need for preparation and collective effort, emphasizing his own readiness and enthusiasm for the upcoming matches.

Reflecting on the recently concluded season, Mbappé described it as « the most difficult to play » in his career. Despite not being his best season in terms of individual statistics, he expressed pride in having played through the challenges and considered it the most mentally and emotionally demanding season of his career.

Mbappé also compared the coaching styles of Luis Enrique (PSG) and Didier Deschamps (France), highlighting the different philosophies and approaches that have enriched his playing style. He praised Enrique’s emphasis on ball possession and tactical discipline, while acknowledging Deschamps’ focus on tactical rigor and offensive freedom.
