A few days after the controversy sparked by homophobic chants during the PSG vs. OM Classique last Sunday, Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra reportedly contemplated halting the match.
PSG’s overwhelming victory over OM (4-0) was marred by chants deemed homophobic emanating from the stands at Parc des Princes, triggering an investigation by the disciplinary commission.
The Sports Minister expressed her concerns during an interview on Canal+. « We should have stopped this match. I believe these protocols, in cases of homophobic chanting, in cases of incitement to hate, yes, they are necessary. »
« It happened in the past, in 2018, in 2019, it happens much less now. I think it’s one of the elements that must occur on the field for the situation to change. »
