Kylian Mbappé is estimated to have contributed around 260 million euros to the French state’s finances over seven years at PSG.

Kylian Mbappé leaving PSG for Real Madrid is a catastrophe for the club, but not only for them. Ligue 1 is struggling to find a broadcaster, partly due to this « abandonment » by the player. And the state will also feel the impact.

From 2022 to 2024, Kylian Mbappé earned 72 million euros gross per year and paid significant taxes in France. The employer-paid social contributions were substantial. « Out of the 72 million euros, you remove 20%, which gives us about fifteen million euros in employee contributions, » notes Vincent Chaudel, founder of the Observatory of Sports Business, on Europe 1.

Taxes… But Also Tax Optimizations

Kylian Mbappé paid 49% of his gross salary to the state, 45% for income tax and 4% for the high-income contribution. This amounts to approximately 18 million euros per year. « Then, you have to add everything he buys, which is taxed with VAT, » Vincent Chaudel points out.

However, the expert interviewed by Europe 1 also estimates that this amount could be lower due to numerous tax optimizations and other investments.
