Following the controversial penalty awarded to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) against Newcastle in the Champions League, UEFA has taken action by reassigning the VAR referee, Tomasz Kwiatkowski.

Originally slated to officiate as VAR for the match between Real Sociedad and FC Salzburg, Kwiatkowski was replaced by Marco Fritz. UEFA’s decision suggests a reevaluation of the performance of the video assistance during the PSG-Newcastle match and the now-infamous penalty.

The penalty awarded to PSG in the closing moments of the game has been a subject of debate, sparking anger in England. UEFA’s move to sideline Kwiatkowski from the upcoming Champions League match indicates a potential acknowledgment of an error made by the VAR system during the PSG-Newcastle game.

Additionally, Ivan Bebek, who served as VAR assistant during the PSG match, was initially set to officiate the match between Benfica and Inter Milan but also seems to have been sidelined, according to information from ESPN.
