Neymar has ultimately undergone surgery in Brazil, after initially considering a procedure in France.

The Al-Hilal forward, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus injuries in his left knee, had a successful operation on Thursday in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He will be required to stay away from the pitch for an extended period during his recovery.

« The operation was a success. We are very satisfied with the result, » stated Rodrigo Lasmar, the surgeon close to the Seleção who performed the procedure. « He underwent an anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, and the two meniscal injuries were repaired, » added the surgeon.

Neymar is expected to remain in the hospital « for 24 to 48 hours, depending on his clinical progress, » according to the doctor. Neymar is likely to be sidelined for at least ten months.
