Thierry Henry, the new head coach of the French Under-21 national team, has weighed in on Kylian Mbappé’s turbulent summer at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). According to Henry, the player has been entirely professional in his dealings with the club.

Mbappé’s summer saga included refusing a contract extension, temporary exclusion from the team, and ultimately becoming indispensable to PSG. While the summer was eventful for the star forward, Thierry Henry sees no wrongdoing on Mbappé’s part.

« He extended his contract by two years (in 2022) when he could have left, what more do you want? He did nothing wrong. Does he have the right to honor his contract? Yes. When a club wants you to leave, and you want to honor your contract, you stay. They do everything to make it possible for you to leave. In my view, he never disrespected PSG or his teammates, » said Thierry Henry on RMC.

Regarding Mbappé’s footballing abilities, Thierry Henry doesn’t believe the player is in decline. On the contrary, he believes Mbappé has room for further improvement. « As they say in English: the sky is the limit. Goals, assists… It impresses me when you can do both. Even if he hasn’t scored yet, you know he can make the crucial pass. Weaknesses in his game with his back to goal and in heading? That’s precisely what’s scary! If he starts to understand the movements in the box, in addition to what he does outside of it, and his heading game… »

Thierry Henry’s support for Mbappé underscores the player’s professionalism and potential for further growth in the world of football.
